Thousands of Canadians face hunger every year and food banks across the country are unable to keep up with the demand. Especially in the summer months. This year, we’re facing hunger head on. In 2015, from May 2nd to the 8th, food banks across Canada will come together to participate in the Every Plate Full Food Drive with an inspiring goal: to fill the plates of every hungry Canadian this summer. Through the efforts of local food banks with the support of our national campaign, we are bringing Canada together to make a difference!
We kick off the Every Plate Full campaign on Saturday, May 2nd! Join us at IGA Golden for the First Annual Fill-a-Raft Event! In partnership with Glacier Raft Company of Golden we will be hosting a food raising event with the goal of filling a raft with donations!
Come join us for some FUN events! Face painting! PRIZES! and MORE!!
Come on down and support the Golden Food Bank!
JOIN US Saturday, May 2nd in the IGA parking lot for your chance to WIN a Glacier Raft Company full day trip for 2 down the Kicking Horse River! Tickets will be sold for $2 each!! Receive a bonus ticket with the donation of a non-perishable food item! See you there!!
In support of Every Plate Full, the Golden Food Bank will be hosting our Annual Food Drive on Saturday, May 9th, 2014. In the past this event has raised close to $15,000 in donations for the Food Bank. In order to have a successful year again we will need many helping hands! This year there will be two opportunities to volunteer with us for the food drive.
Wednesday, May 6th, 1pm - 4pm - We will need volunteers to circulate throughout town and drop off recyclable grocery bags. We are asking residents to fill their grocery bags with items they wish to donate and simply leave the bag on their door step for pick-up on Saturday.
Saturday, May 9th, 12pm - This is the BIG day! We will be breaking up into teams and each team will be assigned a section of town to pick-up non-perishables left on the doorsteps of our neighbours. Both of these days will require lots of volunteers and also volunteers with trucks for transportation. If you are able to help out on either of these days (or both) please reply to this email to let us know! We love seeing new faces volunteering with us so pass this info on to any others you think may be interested! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call at (250) 344-2113 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hope to see you all out for the Food Drive!
The Golden Golf Club will be hosting it's Spring Community Day on Monday, May 11th beginning at 11am! This will be the first of two Community Day events this season! This means... FREE GOLF for all Golden and Area A residents (with proof of residency)
The Club will be collecting donations for the Golden Food Bank and the Golden Eagle Grill will be serving up $5 hamburgers with all proceeds going to the Golden Food Bank!
Tee times are recommended, call the pro shop at (250) 344-2700!
We are looking forward to another bountiful growing season at the Ruth Wixon Food Bank Garden. We have regular volunteer opportunities at the garden on Thursday afternoons, beginning in May, from 3pm until 5pm. Everyone is welcome! If you are interested in volunteering with us at the Food Bank Garden or need more information, please feel free to contact us at (250) 344-2113 or by email at email@example.com.
Speaking of gardening... The Golden Food Bank will be accepting donation of fresh veggies from your garden through the Plant a Row, Grow a Row Program once again this year! Many local gardeners have contributed hundreds of Kgs of fresh, local grown produce from their gardens over the years! Let's share the surplus veggies from our gardens with those in need in our community!
Plant a Row, Grow a Row builds on the long standing tradition of gardeners loving to share their harvest with others. It is a people-helping-people program to assist in feeding the hungry in our own community.
Fresh produce is one of the key components of our food hampers. The Golden Food Bank strives to ensure food hampers contain at least 5 varieties of fresh fruit and vegetable. The surplus produce from your garden goes a long way in helping us meet that objective.
If you are planting a home vegetable garden this year, please consider donating your excess vegetables to the Food Bank. Or even consider planting a little extra for us :)
Produce can be dropped off at the Golden Food Bank Tuesday-Thursday 9-4pm. Please consider your drop off as our hamper pick-ups are on Wednesday mornings...some produce has a shorter shelf life than others.
Thanks for your ongoing support of the Golden Food Bank! Enjoy the Spring weather and I hope to see you out at one of our upcoming events! For more information about the Golden Food Bank please check out our website!
Thanks so much,
