The Golden Food Bank is proud to be participating in the Give it Up for Hungercampaignto mark Hunger Awareness Week, May 5-9th, 2014. Hunger Awareness Week is a week-long initiative challenging Canadians to learn more about the issue of hunger, the important work of food banks and to take action. Visit www.hungerawarenessweek.ca for more information.
In support of Hunger Awareness Week, the Golden Food Bank will be hosting our Annual Food Drive on Saturday, May 10th, 2014. In the past this event has raised close to $15,000 in donations for the Food Bank. In order to have a successful year again this year we will need many helping hands! This year there will be two opportunities to volunteer with us for the food drive.
Wednesday, May 7th, 1pm - We will be needing volunteers to circulate throughout town and drop off recyclable grocery bags. We are asking residents to fill their grocery bags with items they wish to donate and simply leave the bag on their door step for pick-up on Saturday.
Saturday, May 10th, 12pm - This is the BIG day! We will be breaking up into teams and each team will be assigned a section of town to pick-up non-perishables left on the doorsteps of our neighbours.
Both of these days will require lots of volunteers and also volunteers with trucks for transportation. If you are able to help out on either of these days (or both) please reply to this email to let us know! We love seeing new faces volunteering with us so pass this info on to any others you think may be interested! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call at (250) 344-2113.
Hope to see you all out for the Food Drive!
Enjoy the sunshine,
Stephanie Findlater Hamper Manager, Golden Food Bank
